One of the large, star-shaped rocks has been shattered,
and the rubble lies around the jagged frame of the remains. Sitting
in front of it is a large, earless gryphon with black wings and
leopard spots. Her forefeet are not that of a hawk's but that
of a leopards. You walk up to her and she
does not turn, although the twitch at the end of her tail tell
you she knows you're there.
:She cannot Mindspeak you,: a voice speaks. You
look to your left, where Arpier is still sitting on her stone.
:Her parents were killed by humans when she was young and so she
was never given the power.:
"Can't you give it to her?:
:No, only her parents can. But when they were
killed she was taken with them and raised. It is unfortunate that
some humans should think themselves better parents then the parents
themselves. :
"Why is it so important that her parents
give her mindspeech?:
Only the parents of the gryphon can initiate the
Rite of the Self, in which the gryphon learns which stone she
or he is attuned to and is granted mind's speech from the stone.
After all, each parent is part of the gryphon just as all gryphons
are part of the stones.:
"Does she have any way to talk then?"
:Of course. All gryphons have the same spoken
language, for how else would we communicate with our kind before
the rite?:
